Geneva VINCENT was born on March 2, 1894, in Anaconda, Montana. Her father, Clinton, was 37 and her mother, Hannah (Jennie Vincent), was 28. As a young woman, Geneva became a fine seamstress and in 1920 opened a dressmaking shop on State Street between Second and Third Streets. Two years later, she was approached by the Valley Mercantile, a large department store located on the southwest corner of Second and Main. They asked her to work as a dressmaker for them. She said it was in the mercantile that she sewed for Hamilton’s elite. After working at J.C. Penny for eight years, she and Alice Renn Britton became partners in Vincent-Renn Style Shop located in the Dowling building on South Second. In 1946, Geneva and her husband bought out Renn’s interest and the store became, “Geneva’s Apparel”. When they sold the business in 1961, it was located on Main Street in more spacious quarters. It was then renamed, “Irene’s”. She lived at 703 South 2nd Street, Hamilton, Montana. She married much later in life (age 46) to Rostan A. Lindgren on November 7, 1940, in Missoula, Montana. She died on June 10, 1989, in Ravalli, Montana, at the age of 95, and was buried at Riverview Cemetary in Hamilton, Montana.
